mario54
Hi, This is my first post on this forum and am hoping someone can help me with grading this coin. I've a number of Peace and Morgan Dollars and seem to have an idea about those, but when it comes to a small gold coin such as this one I really do not know at all. Many thanks on advance Mario
mario54
Here is the obverse and as you can see there is quite a bit of wear to the grown etc

mario54
Hello Mario and welcome to CoinPeople. Hope you enjoy it here and that someone will be along soon to help with your question. Many thanks, and I apologise, I just realised that I said 'obverse', but meant 'reverse'
ccg
I'm not familiar with the type, but I'd say EF.
mario54
Thanks for your opinion ccg, I tend to get very uncertain when it's between top VF and EF especially if, like you, I'm unfamiliar with the coins.
cool
It is EF according to me.
cool
It may also be VF as its condition is around 85-90% which is on the border between VF and EF.
mario54
Hi, I'm experiencing some problems with this coin. As my main interest is early Liberty Head gold dollars and the like I decided to sell this one on via e-bay and took a Best Offer that meant I just about broke even, which I wasn't worried about. The buyer has now stated that the coin was not as described and is saying that there is no Arabesque pattern on the rim, and that the rim is nicked (damaged) stating that it has probably been mechanically treated to fit a medallion with a chain (which I do not understand). I have seen many coins that have been inside mounts and if they are damaged then they tend to have 3 or 4 areas where the lugs have been, and I don't think that this shows that type of damage. I have asked for photos of the area that he is concerned about which he has sent but they are of poor quality and I cannot judge anything. However, what I am trying to discover, and I cannot seem to find any information out there, is what exactly should there be on the rims of these coins. What sort of Arabesque pattern is he talking about. Does anyone know? Can anyone point me in the right direction? Many thanks Mario
