extant4cell
In another discussion, Steve Moulding has shared this topic link with me ( http://www.coinpeople.com/index.php/topic/22308-1811-2k-overstruck-mintmark/ ), where squirrel shared some amazing photographs with everyone. I thought it may be interesting to share them again with you in a separate topic dedicated to amateur photographs of rare coins (rarity or quality-wise) from well know collections if possible. These photographs are made by real people and taken on the angle that is unusual to see in the professional photos, which gives additional feel of what these coins really look like. Here are the pictures of some coins from Great Duke Georgiy Michajlovich (VKGM) that were on display in Smithsonian museum in 2003 and that were shared by squirrel:

squirrel
Thank you for reposting this, Ex4! Its nice to wake up, tune in to the forum, and see my old pics! It brings back memories of a very nice trip to Washington DC, to see my brother and his brand new little girl! The visit to the Smithsonian was serendipedous as I had no idea the collection was on display that day!

gxseries
There's this book about 300 years of St. Petersburg mint. This book is peppered with a lot of illustrations. Might as well see if I can scan some of the better ones. A very nice book that one-kuna sold me a while ago. I also have a set of postcards issued by the Hermitage museum I believe. It could be covered by some of the pictures shown earlier. Have to dig that out...

Steve D'Ippolito
Thank you for reposting this, Ex4! Its nice to wake up, tune in to the forum, and see my old pics! It brings back memories of a very nice trip to Washington DC, to see my brother and his brand new little girl! The visit to the Smithsonian was serendipedous as I had no idea the collection was on display that day! I visited it that same year; side trip from the ANA boston. Took pictures of those two cases, and more than likely left handprints and noseprints on the glass and drool on the floor.
