Straits Settlements Queen Victoria

Denomination : 10cts

Year : 1883

Composition : Silver .800 fine

Mintage : 165,000

Grade: VF+ ~ XF (In my opinion)

This is one of the scarce coin I acquired many years back. Not sure how much I paid for it. Apparently it's the second most expensive year of the 10cts series. The most expensive piece is the 1883H (Heaton & Sons Mint, Birmingham, England) even though at 610,000 mintage.

One of the Queen Victoria 10cts later years silver coin. Mintage are relatively very high; one of very common coin found offered over the net. However the high grade copies are hard to find. Hope to get hold of a better copy and at lower price.

I need to check in on this forum more often... these types of British Commonwealth coins are right up my alley. Great pics! I am still relatively new to the hobby (been doing this less than a year) but I did manage to acquire an 1894 Straits Settlements 10 cent piece that is one of the prizes of my still nascent collection. My immediate goal is to get at least one example of a coin from each British Commonwealth country then move into filling them out as time allows. I often wondered what it must feel like for monarchs to spend money with their own face on it. Talk about narcissism lol.

This is one of the difficult year in the Kg George V's series which I manage to get hold of, especially if they are in high grades. I had it slabbed and it was certified as AU58. Catalog price for a UNC copy is about $330, however in a recent Singapore auction in April '13 a piece graded MS62 sold for approx, $1840. Wow! that was incredible; now hoping to get an UNC copy will proof expensive.

Denomination : 20cts
Year : 1916B
Composition : Silver .600 fine

Very nice Sidney. Sometimes auction prices get way out of line with reality but often they are truer indicators of value than pricing guides or ebay.

Many high quality coins goes beyond catalog prices because been certified. One will definitely not pay high bucks base on personal gradings or from the pictures posted on eBay or any other auction sites as they can be deceiving, but once they are certified that's a different story.

There are picks in the market anyway, but if they start low I will take chances to bid on the coins, then have it slab and certified.
