Lovely! It's amazing to think those notes are still around.

I recently found this in circulation:

I think some curency and coins get stuck aside, hidden in a book or stashed in the underware drawer, then they are found years later and put back into circulation. About 40 years ago my brother-in-law started ripping of his father's coin collection to buy drugs. He would take $10 or $20 in coins and go buy dope with it. My father-in-law collected the pre 1965 silver coins , including several 1916 Standing Liberty half dollars, and my brother-in-law stole them and spent them. He took some silver certificates too. Lucky collectors probably took them out of circulation pretty quick.

A lot of older cash that has been saved until now is coming out of the woodwork with all the high unemployment etc. Recently when I returned from Ukraine I found that one of the tellers in one of my banks had been holding onto the old stuff for awhile because nobody was buying it, so I got a series 1934 $100, several 1950's era $20s, a 1963 $20 Star note and some USN $2 bills from the 1963 series. Since early 2008 I have managed to stash away quite a bit of these older notes, even silver certificates from circulation.

Unless they are replacement or star notes, or were from a rare date and series they don't usually have a whole lot of value beyond face. Catalogue values like Friedberg are on the high side considering this lousy economy and the prices are now unrealistic. If nothing else hold onto them and keep them for emergency money like I do, and then you can spend them if you have to, but don't want to.
