Funny or Obscure bank notes

Recommended Posts

As a subset of my collection i like notes that are funny, oddities or would inflame people :ninja:

I will upload some of my notes that meet these requirements. Please be aware that some are racist and some are anti women etc, they meet the inflame part of what I say above (some also the funny) and do not reflect my opinions.

Please add any from your own collections for us all to marvel at.

This note depicts geese giving birth to two children.

This is part of a series of notes http://germannotgeld.com/Gater%20Sleben.html that depict a German Story about two mischievous children who are eventual killed and eaten by the geese. Hence the rebirth.

Where do you start with a note like this?

191_A.jpg

191_B.jpg

On the front you have a Jewish Woman who is breast feeding a sack of money

A capitalistic greedy American on the right side

A Jewish man rubbing his hands together on the left.

The text also adds to this but i don't have a translation handy, any help here would be appreciated.

The back of the note depicts the spiraling inflation of the early 1920's

There are a lot of versions of this note

18 I think, 3 verses, linen, silk, two dates

Those are very interesting and colorful (literally and figuratively) notes! I don't think I've ever seen a notgeld in person.

I don't own any funny or obscure notes (maybe somewhere I do) but I own a coin with ugly toning in a funny place!

The Cook Islands began issuing paper money in 1987, previously they used New Zealand currency in circulation. The release of this issue with "Ina and the Shark" on it, and on the $10 and $20 notes was popular with collectors because of the obvious design of the note. Ina and the Shark is a popular legend in the Island group about a girl who road through the seas on the back of a shark, when she was thirsty she would break a coconut on the sharks dorsal fin to crack it open and get the coconut juice. Once she cracked the coconut on the sharks head, angering him, so that the shark dumped her to be rescued by Tekea the Great, the king of all sharks. This issue was replaced with a newer issue in 1992, which all other than the $3 notes were recalled and Reserve Bank of New Zealand notes resumed circulation in the Cook Islands. This note is P3 in the Krause catalog.

I do not collect German notgeld, but even I have the complete set of Paderborn notes, even with the original wrapper they were sold in, just for the ducat defecating donkey.

Can you supply an image of the packet, I do not have one for this set or even seen one.

I sold a large collection of German notgeld on eBay for a friend a few years ago, if I can locate the photos I'll post the best one's here.

And now you might wonder why in the world I posted a 100 Baisa note here? What's so funny with it?

Well, probably nothing - unless you're a Sweden! Because in Swedish the word "Baisa" (spelled "Bajsa", pronounced the same) means "poop" in English.

So in Swedish, this is 100 Poop!

The "notgeld" pictured in this thread was never used as money! All these notes were printed to make money, they were sold in sets to dealers who aroused an interest in these notes and artificially created a collectors' market.

Real German notgeld looks quite different, mostly having a much simpler design.
