Libby went detecting with me the other day.

At first she really wasn't into the whole "playing in the dirt" part so I had pocket piece Ike have a chat with her.

Picture007.jpg

He told her all about how he lay burried in the ground for years until I "rescued" him 3 years ago this month.

After a bit Libby really got into it.

Here she jumped into the dirt to administer first aid to a crusty Memorial cent.

Libby and I took a walk around North Buffalo. First stop was the Darwin Martin house.

DSCN1066.jpg

Designed for his benefactor by Frank Lloyd Wright, perhaps the most famous architect of the United States.

The complex is currently undergoing a multi-million dollar reconstruction and will be open to the public.

DSCN1067.jpg

Built in Wrights famous Prarie style he comsidered it his "piece de resistance".

Next was the Buffalo and Erie county Historical scociety.

DSCN1075.jpg

The building was origionally the New York State building for the Pan American Expo of 1901.

DSCN1076.jpg

Its the only building that remains from the Expo.

Liberty and Lincoln.

Libby thought this was the best seat in the house.

One of Buffalos claims to fame.......?

The Presidentcy of William McKinley came to a tragic end in September 1901. He was standing in a receiving line at the Buffalo Pan-American Exposition when a deranged anarchist shot him twice. He died eight days later.

The Albright-Knox art Gallery.

DSCN1078.jpg

Origionally intended to serve first as the Fine Arts Pavilion of the Pan-American Exposition in 1901, it was completed too late(due to material shortages) for that purpose in 1905. The original building was designed by E. B. Green.

The Richardson Towers at Buffalo State Hospital.

DSCN1072.jpg

These hospital buildings were designed by architect Henry Hobson Richardson in 1870.

One of several asylums erected by the state just after the Civil War the towers themselves serve no practical purpose.(They are empty as the day they were built)

Took Libby on a drive thru Forest Lawn cemetary. It is huge with winding roads and rolling hills.

We paused at the grave of one of Buffalos favorite sons, 13th President Millard Fillmore.

Picture003.jpg

The cemetary is full of improtant people from the citys past. Martha Washingtons grand daughter, the women that started Flag day, doctors, writers and many more.

Libby Recognized this one.

Libby and I went on a short "quest".

First stop was the Historical Society of the Tonawandas for a bit of information. The society uses the old Tonawanda railroad station as its home.

DSCN1084.jpg

The info. recieved led us here. 303 Goundry street North Tonawanda.

DSCN1085.jpg

This was the home of Samuel W. Brown. Mr Brown was the Mayor of North Tonawanda back in the 30's but is best known as a central figure in some of the most famous and valuable coins in American numismatic history. I'd love to get my detector out and check for burried treasure in this yard.

Anyone know what coins were probably in residence at 303 Goundry street?
