tabbs
The Mint of Finland apparently plans to issue a €10 coin commemorating Mikael Agricola http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mikael_Agricola next year. More details in some language I don't really understand is here: http://www.rahapaja.fi/fi/tiedotteet/1699/ and in the linked PDF document. Sir Sisu
It will make up for the fact that he missed out on making it on a banknote. The link above is an invitation for entries for the design competition.
tabbs
Aha, thanks. That Wikipedia article refers to him as "The Father of Finnish written language" ... hmm, that could become an interesting design. Christian
tabbs
And voilà, this is the winner ... More information (in English) about Agricola and the design is here: http://www.rahapaja.fi/en/press-releases/1757/ Christian
Sir Sisu
Here were some of the other entrants. The first three were the top three in that order, and the following two received honourable mention. As usual, it is difficult to capture decent in-focus images since I take them very casually and don't spend a lot of time taking them. (And since these are just in a hallway, the lighting is not optimal, especially considering that they are white plaster ) You might notice that a couple of designs were used twice. tabbs
Ah, thank you! Somehow I managed to miss this post; "discovered" it just recently. Good to see that the "children's ABC" (image #5; guess that #6 is the other side) did not make it, hehe. And #9 rather looks like a coin dedicated to the postal service ... Apart from the winning entry, I also like pictures #12 and #22. Errrm ... what happened to 33? Christian
